Post with 1 note
I’ve been really slacking off on my reading lately, and I need to get back into it. The last good book I remember reading was “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” by Stieg Larsson, and that was almost a month ago. It’s easy to forget about it since it’s not a concrete “assignment” like my schoolwork, but I should place it higher on my priorities. Reading gives my mind a place of solace, a place where quixotic adventures are the norm rather than my comparatively drab everyday experiences. On a more functional level, reading quality literature seems to be a more mentally engaging activity than say, finding derivatives or determining the amount of base needed. Also, reading popular works helps me to become more cultured and socially aware; it’s pretty embarrassing when someone has to explain an allusion to a popular literary work to me simply because “I haven’t read it.” The time investment to read is minimal, but the benefits are potentially great.
